PENTHOUSE GROOVE

記念すべき第一回のイベントアーカイブでは、ヤン富田氏によるブルーノート東京での公演を取り上げさせていただきます。

父はかつてヤン富田さんと仕事をご一緒させていただいたことがあり、私も幼い頃からヤンさんについての話をたびたび聞いてきました。
その影響もあって、これまで数多くのヤンさんの楽曲を聴いてきましたが、今回ようやくライブを生で体験することができました。

ヤン富田さんといえばスティールパンを使用した宇宙を連想させるような独特の空気感・浮遊感のある楽曲が多数存在しますが、
今回のライブでもスティールパンの一音目が奏でられたその瞬間からヤン富田さんの楽曲特有の独特な宇宙観に引き込まれた感覚をこのイベントアーカイブを書いている今でも鮮明に覚えています。

序盤の演奏では「Beyond The Blue Star Zone」と「Air Vibes」が非常に印象に残っています。
特に「Air Vibes」は私も父も愛聴してきた楽曲で、いつまでも聴いていたくなるようなあの流麗なストリングスを生演奏で拝聴することができたのは素晴らしい体験でした。

中盤に演奏された「Forever Yann / Forever Young」では、楽曲内で使用された「C-ya!」が印象的でした。
これは父から教わったヤン富田さんの楽曲のひとつで、かつて父がヤンさんとの仕事の中でも使っていたという話もあり、感慨深いものがありました。

後半の「噂だけの世紀末」と「Memory Band」についても今回のライブで個人的に気づきのある選曲でした。
元ネタの「Love Is EveryWhere」や「Memory Band」は私がDJを始めた頃に父から教わり、特に思い入れのある楽曲たちです。
その曲がヤン富田さんのライブで使用されたことに不思議な縁を感じるとともに、ヤン富田さんのいう「必然性のある偶然」の片鱗に触れた瞬間だったように思います。

合間に挟まれるトークが茶目っ気たっぷりだったことも印象に残っています。
演奏だけでなく、ヤン富田さんの人柄に触れたことで、かつて父との会話から想像したことしかなかったヤン富田さんの世界が実際に目の前に広がっている感覚を覚え、新鮮であるような、どこか懐かしいような不思議な感覚に包まれました。

終演後には、僭越ながら楽屋へご挨拶にも伺いました。今回父は来場できませんでしたが、父から私へと伝えられてきたヤン富田さんの数々のお話や、現在父子で始めたPENTHOUSE GROOVEの活動についてもお伝えすることができました。

今回のライブは、ヤン富田さんおよびオーディオ・サイエンス・ラボラトリー（A.S.L.）が掲げる「音楽による意識の拡大」という理念に、改めて深く共鳴するきっかけとなりました。
父から教わってきた多くのことの源流を体感できたような、かけがえのない経験でした。

この体験を糧に、PENTHOUSE GROOVEとして発信するコンテンツが皆様の音楽体験をより豊かにできるよう、今後も精進してまいります。

最後に備忘録として今回のライブのセットリストを以下に記載させていただきます。
私のようにヤン富田さんの音楽に感化されてきた方はもとより、これから感化されていく方の音楽体験の拡張の一助になれば幸いです。

In this commemorative first edition of our event archive, we are pleased to feature a performance by Jan Tomita at Blue Note Tokyo.

My father once worked with Yann Tomita, and growing up, I often heard stories about him. Influenced by those stories, I listened to many of his works, but this was the first time I experienced his live performance firsthand.

Known for his ethereal, space-inspired soundscapes featuring the steelpan, Yann Tomita instantly transported us into his universe from the first resonating note. I can vividly recall that overwhelming sensation even as I write this archive.

In the early part of the set, "Beyond The Blue Star Zone" and "Air Vibes" left a particularly strong impression. "Air Vibes" has always been a favorite of both my father and me, and hearing its beautiful, flowing strings live was unforgettable.

Midway through the concert, "Forever Yann / Forever Young" featured the track "C-ya!," a song my father introduced to me that held personal significance because of their past collaborations.

Later in the set, "Whispers of the End of the Century" and "Memory Band" resonated deeply. I was struck by the sense of destiny, recalling that these songs were among the first my father recommended when I started DJing. It felt like a glimpse into the "inevitable coincidences" Yann often spoke of.

Between performances, Yann's witty and playful MC segments further revealed his character. Experiencing his music and personality firsthand was both refreshingly new and deeply nostalgic.

After the show, I had the honor of visiting his dressing room. I shared how my father had passed along many of Yann’s stories and how we are now pursuing new activities together as PENTHOUSE GROOVE.

This concert reaffirmed Yann Tomita and the Audio Science Laboratory's vision of "expanding consciousness through music," a philosophy that has deeply influenced my own journey.

Building on this unforgettable experience, we at PENTHOUSE GROOVE are more committed than ever to creating content that enriches listeners' musical lives.
